SOLO AND ENSEMBLE (2012)
Solo and Ensemble is an annual event sponsored by the Ohio Music Educators Association (primarily in-school music teachers).  There is one Solo and Ensemble held for high school students and one for seventh and eighth graders.  Students from many schools around the region participate.  Each musician learns a solo on their instrument(s) of choice.  A middle school pianist may choose any classical piece.  A high school pianist must select a piece from the OMEA list of approved pieces.  There are A, B, and C category pieces (the A level selections being the most difficult).  Students perform for an adjudicator.  There is no competition involved.  The performer receives a comment sheet from the judge and a rating.  ('One' is the highest score and 'five' is the lowest.)
WHAT:
Solo and Ensemble is held at a school in our region.  Piano performances are held either in a classroom or on the school stage.  The quality of the piano will depend on the facilities available at that particular school.  All performances are open, so there may be a small audience when you play.
WHEN: High school Solo and Ensemble is scheduled for February 11th.
Middle school Solo and Ensemble is scheduled for April 21st.
WHERE: This year, high school Solo and Ensemble will be at Granville High School (yea!).  As far as I know, the Middle School Solo and Ensemble will be held at Riverview (26496 State Route 60 North in Warsaw, Ohio).
FEES: Each entry is about $15.00, payable to your school .
DEADLINE: The deadline for high school entries is January 11th.
Middle school entries are due by March 21st.
STUDENTS MUST REGISTER THROUGH A MUSIC TEACHER AT THEIR SCHOOL!

Although the audience found their performance quite entertaining, Jamey and Nathan were ultimately disqualified when the judge could not find their piece anywhere on the OMEA repertoire list.
