STUDIO CLASSES 2011 - 2012
WHAT: A Studio Class is a gathering of  a small group of students in an informal setting.  There are usually between 6 and 12 students in a class and they are most often grouped by age.  Parents can attend if they wish (as long as there is enough room!) but it is primarily designed for the students to play for each other.
A traditional studio class is one that involves a student performing his/her piece, receiving instruction, and then working on it in front of the other students.  This is done in order to help all the students improve their listening skills and to give them a chance to learn from each other.  Most often, however, I use the classes as an informal performance opportunity, and keep my comments to a minimum.
One class each year is dedicated to ensemble (mostly duet) playing.  The others are usually held at times that will help students prepare for specific events. Guild week is the ONLY time of the year that students attend a class INSTEAD OF a private lesson.
WHERE: Studio classes are held either at my house, or at the home of one of my students.
WHEN: Classes are held five or six times a year, usually on Friday afternoons.
FEES: None
DEADLINE:    None
NEXT: The next studio class will be held at my house on Friday, February 24th at 3:15.  It is for those students who are participating in the OMTA District Festival at Capital University on Saturday, February 25th.

Miranda found it difficult to concentrate on her studio class performance the day that high attendance created a seating shortage.
