| NEWARK-GRANVILLE SYMPHONY YOUNG MUSICIAN'S COMPETITION (2012) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| WHAT: | This competition, sponsored by the Newark-Granville Symphony, seeks to provide musical opportunities for the most accomplished young musicians in Central Ohio. Auditions are opened to advanced instrumentalists and vocalists, 12 to 18 years of age (or still in high school) who live in Licking County, or are members of the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony. Each student plays a classical piece for a panel of judges. (Four copies of the piece need to be made available to the judges.) It must be written for instrumental solo with orchestral accompaniment, and be between 3 and 12 minutes in length. Memorization is recommended. Auditions are open, so there may be an audience listening. The first place winner may perform with the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra at a concert later in the spring.
